Your first map, step by step
-
Create a private draft
Open My Backrooms and choose Create your first Backrooms or New Backrooms. Choose a starter or an empty room, then select Start building. You can name it now or later. Your draft stays private until you publish it.
-
Lay out your rooms
Every new level starts with walkable flooring and solid perimeter walls. Use Wall to divide rooms, add doors or open the perimeter, and Floor to change or remove flooring where needed. On a phone, tap Edit this level to open the full-screen editor. Wait for Level saved automatically before leaving.
-
Add a door puzzle
Choose a door with the Wall tool. A coloured key door needs a matching key placed with Object; players must be able to reach the key before the locked door. Use Select to edit a password or question door's details.
-
Set the start and the goal
Choose Start and click a safe floor cell where players should appear. Choose Object, then Trophy, and place it at the end of your route. Leave a path that players can complete.
-
Play through your draft
Use Test 3D or 2D beside the draft status. Check the starting room, collect the key, open the door and reach the trophy. Return to the editor to fix any blocked route.
-
Publish, then share
Choose Publish beside the draft status. Add and upload a cover image if you have not chosen one yet, then choose Publish Backrooms. Wait for the published confirmation before using Share link. Other people can now open your page and play. Page sections are optional, and you can keep editing after publishing.
Give your world its own character
Choose Backrooms, Poolrooms or Brutalist for the atmosphere. Build upward with multiple floors, stairs and columns, or open the space with arches, windows and water.
Use Add to map for conversations and collectibles. Create speakers in Characters and items in Inventory. With events, you can build quests, choices, locked routes and story endings. Test each interaction before publishing.
When Start from a prompt is available, optional AI generation can create an editable world or story from your idea. Review the Diamond price before generating, then refine and test the private draft yourself.
