Safety for parents & teachers
Plain answers about what MyBackrooms is, what players can and can't do, and how content is moderated.
What is MyBackrooms?
MyBackrooms is a creative maze game: players build multi-level "Backrooms" worlds in a visual editor and explore each other's creations in 3D or 2D. There is no violence beyond cartoon-style hazards (spikes, wandering ghosts, slow fireballs), no blood, and no scary imagery beyond mild "liminal space" atmosphere.
Players never talk to each other
There is no chat, no direct messages, no comments and no voice — the platform has no way for players to contact one another. Racing another player's "ghost" is a replay of their recorded run, not a live connection. The only user-created content is the maps themselves: their layout, names, descriptions and images.
How content is moderated
- Before publication: uploaded images and public text are automatically screened (Azure AI Content Safety) before they can go live. If the screening service is unavailable, publishing is blocked rather than waved through.
- After publication: every map can be reported — from its public page or from inside the game — without needing an account. A human reviews every report and can unpublish or delete the content.
- Private by default: new maps start private and are only visible to others when their creator explicitly publishes them — useful for classroom projects that should stay within the class.
Accounts and age
Playing requires no account at all. An account is only needed to build maps, vote, or appear on leaderboards. Our Terms require account holders to be 16 or older (or the digital-consent age in their country); the service is not directed at children under 16.
Purchases
Some optional creator tools (image uploads, AI map generation, extra levels) use a virtual currency called Diamonds, bought via standard app-store or card payments. Purchases require being 18+ or having a parent or guardian's consent. Every purchase buys a specific, known thing — there are no loot boxes, no randomized rewards and no gambling mechanics. Playing, building and publishing are free.
Data
We collect the minimum needed to run the service: an account stores an email address, a nickname, and the maps, votes and images its owner creates. There is no advertising and no third-party analytics, and we never collect location, contacts or browsing history. Account holders can permanently delete their account and data themselves from account settings. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Questions or concerns
If you've seen something that worries you, report the map directly (no account needed) or reach us through the contact form — safety reports are read by a human.
